Using the Paper Test

1. About this Test

This test is a written (paper) version of the test given utilizing the “Challenge with Erin – Japanese Language Test –“ smartphone app for beginning learners at the level of secondary education.

  • As with the app, there are sixteen tests available. Each test has 50 questions.
    (All sixteen tests have the same level of difficulty, so they can be taken in any order.)
  • The included files are "Tests," to hand out, and "Answers," which give the answers to the questions.
  • The materials are available in English and Indonesian.

2. Examples of Use

The paper version was created to enable learners who cannot use the app to take the test in class with their fellow students, but it can be used as desired. Please use it for a broad range of purposes.

Examples
of
Use

In the case of Japanese clubs, etc., provide desks and give the test to everyone at one time, with a set time limit, similar to the way in which quizzes are given in schools in Japan.

Hand out copies for homework, then form groups to check answers a day or two later.

<Example>
  1. (1) First, learners compare their answers.
  2. (2) Next, hand out the answers and check individual responses.

Form multiple groups of about five learners each. Post the same number of tests as groups on a blackboard or the wall. On the signal "Ready, go!" the first person in each group answers a question and circles the answer, then the next person answers a question, and so on. This continues until time is up, and the team with the most correct answers is the winner.
